Welcome to Kitchen Dads! Hi, I'm Cliff Pelloni and I'm not a professional chef, just a Dad who loves to cook. I grew up in a family who loved food and cooking and wanted to pass that legacy on to my kids.
I started Kitchen Dads as a way to preserve family recipes while teaching his kids some basic cooking skills. Since its inception it has grown into a movement to get not only more Dads in the kitchen but a place where both kids and adults alike can learn how to cook simple, healthy, delicious meals which their families will love and have fun making.
The Kitchen Dads internet cooking show is seen by people in over 170 countries around the world. Recipes can be viewed at www.KitchenDadsCooking.com
I reside in Roswell, Georgia with his wife, Wanda, two Kitchen Kids and dog Bella. When I'm not cooking, I'm thinking about food, talking to someone about food or planning what next to eat.

white wine vinegar is best
Love that stuff!
A dollop of mayo to make it "my own"
That's what I like to see! 😊
I don't remember mom making it with dill, but I remember her adding paprika on top at the end.
Heard of this variation before.
My first hubs was Pennsylvania Dutch and they made a similar recipe but used mayo instead of sour cream. Now Second hubs is allergic to milk, so mayo is what I'll use!
Don't want anyone having a reaction to the cucumber salad!! Glad you have a version without milk.
This really helped!
So Glad!
I can NOT eat any sugar substitute at all. Makes me sick
Mentioned this for people that wanted to avoid sugar. Since the video, I've gone back to using sugar. So little in the recipe for the volume made.
cukes dont get enough love! I spent my youth picking them! N,hatfield mass
They get lots of love here!!
I do this all the time...and it is my new favorite!!!
Super!!
I'm make me sum yummy
My mom made a version of this using a vinegar base instead of sour cream, probably because my dad didn't eat sour cream. She was from Nurnberg, and she named me Ingrid! I still make her version of this salad .
Great name!! :) My mom made another version like the one you describe. Here is the link to the video ua-cam.com/video/7X32l8ulark/v-deo.htmlsi=_22YSzUQZEeiDfS5 Thanks for watching!!
My mother was German (Berlin) and she made this every summer with English cucumbers that my father grew and she would add a small quantity of lemon zest, the fragrance was pure summer. I still make it, I am 76. This also reminds me of all her wonderful recipes, including potato salad.
It's not summer unless we make this salad
Since my last name is Flippin I want that shirt, nice lol
Ha! That is the shirt for you..
Great recipe! Thank you for sharing!
Enjoy!
I cheat by using Ranch dressing
Good recipe. For a spicy and tangy variation, add one tablespoon of a quality fish sauce, and 1/2 teaspoons of hot sauce. It really spices it up!
Spicy!!!
OMG my mom has this same slicer. I have skimmed off a finger tip a number of times!!
Yes, one you get moving, have to be careful of getting to the end of the veggies!
Can you make this without cucumbers??
Maybe with radishes sliced REALLY thin. It's really for cucumbers, but you could give it a try. Report back if you do!!
@@KitchenDadsCooking Thank you for your kind response. I was trying to be funny...like, anything cucumber is delicious as long as you leave out the cucumber! Our household is divided on fresh cucumber.
Maybe this will win some coverts!! if not, more for the cucumber people!!😋
My family background is German. I make this salad and Geman Potatoe salad as well as many other German dishes.
Best stuff!!
The recipe may be German, but the cucumbers are not. The "standard" US cucumber is literally not available in Germany. You should have gone for the English cucumber as that's the regular salad cucumber in Germany and has been for the last 60 years.
Yes but when we were growing up in the US the English cucumber was not available. I love the English variety but the dish will be as equally go with either.
My German granny used miracle whip. You can bypass the sugar then. Milk, apple cider vinegar and miracle whip. ❤
Interesting. Growing up miracle whip was on my sandwiches :)
The only cucumbers we get in the U.K are the "British" sort. Perfect for cucumber sarnies. You'd probably need to deseed them for this, and they'd still lose a lot of water...
I'd try both ways, seeded and deseeded. I'm all for less work when getting a meal on the table!
Looks delicious 😊
Thank God for Ingrid! This might become a staple at my BBQs.
Hope it does, Ingrid would be happy!!
ACK! Don't throw out that cucumber juice - makes a great cocktail, or just mixed with lemon and club soda! Also tip: make the dressing separate from the veggies, then pour it over. Easier to make sure all parts get all the flavors! Looks amazing! Have a great Father's day!
As for the juice, yes, I often save it for a drink or cocktail. Will try the way you suggest with lemon and club soda, sounds refreshing. As for the dressing, prefer to make it all in one bowl. Love the action of folding the cucumbers in the juice and have one less thing to clean up. Thanks for watching!!
I had raised Beit Alpha cucs last year, a self-polinating variety from Israel, big mistake. If you do not raise them in a greenhouse so they won't be cross polinated, you'll end up with lemon shaped and C shaped, anything but cuc shaped cucs. Big disappointment.
Thanks for sharing! Better luck this year.
12 minutes video for a salad? Keep it shorter!
Harry. Have two words for you...watch time. Lot of people like to hear the stories and get tips while watching a recipe. but since you are in a hurry here is the short version for you and the rest of the people that have and no patience. - ua-cam.com/video/LGv4PcbYxdY/v-deo.htmlsi=AKxinIaB7smLLvPb
My German mom made the same recipe without the sour cream, she used white wine vinegar, dill, salt and WHITE pepper and sugar!~ Sooo good with potatoes, a combination made in heaven. I miss my mother and her cooking.
Yeah no Mayo or dairy!!!. Great salad for summer! We weren’t big on Mayo or sour cream in my family. I like using Greek yogurt a lot nowadays, but not for cukes! Same with coleslaw! No Mayo!
So did mine. This is the recipe I still use.
And this salad has really almost no calories and tastes sooo good.
Love this! Unfortunately it would never fly with my "beans and rice" Texas in-laws. Every single one says they are "allergic" to cucumbers?? So it's all for me if I make this salad. Which I do and I eat it gladly!!! Yumm and thanks for giving me more ideas to make cold food in these HOT HOT HOT summer South Texas days.
Make it for yourself, enjoy it and maybe one of them will come around and try it. If they give you a hard time ...more for you :)
Hot as Blazes in Abilene, Tx. My mom was from Berlin and made this all the time.
Oh! 😱 Memory! My mother had a small metal grater/slicer like that, but I don't remember ever using it. Wow.
:)
Thank you for the recipe! The Feemster slicer is my favorite tool, too!
Love it!!
I have tried to make this salad in the past. No 1 showed to add salt get water out of cucumbers. I also used Greek yogurt bad after taste. I can't wait to try this Delicious salad it seems to be the right 1 this time 🤗
Hope it works for you!
Is that brown rice vinegar on the chicken and veggies?
Balsamic
What kind of vinegar should I use? Please
White is fine, some use apple cider
Would other seafood work like this like shrimp and scallops and stuff. I guess I’ll try and find out.
They should, cooking times might vary a bit. As you said, try and find out
Good presentation and instructions for the salad dressing. Thank you.
Thank you!! 😊
great but for extra kick add some toasted sesame oil and seasoned rice vinegar!
Always tell people to make recipes their own! Great suggestion.
That looks simple and delicious!!
Try it. It's tasty 😋
Oma and opa where from Germany I enjoyed cucumber salad from Collingwood Ontario Canada
Gotta be crazy to buy radishes. It's the easiest thing you could ever grow.
Yes. Like growing them. Also like eating them while the others are growing. Thus, the trip to the store 😁
Grew. Up. Enjoying. This. M0utywateringdish! Perfect. With. A. Breaded veal. Cutlet mashed. Potato. Dinner.
Yum!
Looks tasty😊
Thank you 😋
Beet root need to boiled or not?
